Breast augmentation.

Breast augmentation

There are many reasons for a patient to require a breast augmentation: small breasts, breasts “emptied” after breast feeding, asymmetric breasts and breast reconstruction after mastectomy.

How is the surgery performed?

This surgery may be performed with general anesthesia as well as with sedatives and in an outpatient procedure or with 24 hours hospitalization.

The technique varies in each case, the incision is performed in the submammary region or around the areola and a space is created (pocket), where it will lodge the implant. This pocket can be placed behind or in front of the pectoral muscle according to each patient.

How is the implant chosen?

There are many options as regards breast implants. Every surgeon chooses a specific type and brand of implant according to quality. As regards size and shape, they will vary according to each patient: patient’s expectations, size and shape of the breast before surgery, quality of breast skin, and features and stature of the patient.

Postoperative care.

Patient goes home with a top or bandage which will be used for at least a week. She will be recommended 5 days rest. No efforts will be allowed during the first week, and during the second the patient will be allowed to carry out normal activities as long as they do not imply greater efforts. After a month, the patient will resume physical exercises.

Stitches are removed from 7 to 14 days after surgery.
