Botox®, Botulinum Toxin Type A

Botox®, Botulinum toxin type A- is a popular non-surgical injection that diminishes wrinkles of facial expressions.

It is a purified protein which relaxes facial mimic's expression muscles. When we gesticulate, face muscles contract and relax generating lines of expression.

How long does the effect last?

Do wrinkles get worse if Botox® treatment is stopped?

No, the patient may undergo the treatment for a while, then stop. Wrinkles do not come back thicker. On the contrary, after a while, it delays the formation of permanent wrinkles. However, the effect of Botox® is temporary and the muscles will go back to their usual state making wrinkles reappear.

What does the procedure consist of?

It is a simple procedure carried out in the consulting room. Microinjections with the product are applied in the areas to be treated. Application may last between 10 to 15 minutes and it is well tolerated by the patient. The patient may then carry out normal activities.
