Breast reduction

Breast reduction

Breast reduction surgery is one of the most rewarding for the patient, who, in most of the cases, has suffered the big size of her breasts since her adolescence with a consequent back pain and posture changes.

This surgery is always accompanied by mastopexy (rising of the breast) since not only the excess tissue is to be removed, but also repositioned to a harmonic height within the thorax.

How is the surgery performed?

This surgery is carried out under general anesthesia and a day of hospitalization is recommended. The incisions will vary according to each case and it is important to have a good talk with the surgeon about the surgery and about the patient’s expectations. The scar could go from a small scar around the areola to an inverted T (as shown in the drawing). In all cases the scars are hidden inside the bra and are usually well accepted by the patient.

The excess of skin and breast tissue are then removed, and stitches are made to reshape the breast and provide it with a harmonic shape and firmer consistency.

Postoperative care

Patient goes home wearing a gym top which she will have to wear for about a week. It is recommended a week rest after surgery and as from that time, the patient will reassume her activities, increasing the effort in a gradual manner. She will be able to carry out normal activities a month after surgery.

Stitches will be removed from 7 to 14 days after the operation.
